Courage, the original definition of courage, when it first came into the English language - it’s from the Latin word “cor”, meaning “heart” - and the original definition was to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart.

Appointments

Appointments are primarily available face to face, but Telehealth and phone appointments are considered on a case-by-case basis with prior arrangement.

A standard therapeutic session is 50 minutes and we agree on how often these need to be. For example, people may prefer more frequent appointments in the initial stages of therapy and then extend the time frames between sessions over time.

Cognitive assessment sessions can range, depending on the amount of assessment required (i.e., 2 hours and above). Whilst this is often completed in one session, subsequent sessions often occur depending on the amount of assessment required and the feedback process requested.

Appointment Times

Therapy appointments are available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:30am (earliest appointment) to 3pm (latest appointment).

Assessment appointments are available on Wednesdays, from 8:30am onwards.

FAQ

  • To get a mental health treatment plan you need to book a longer appointment with your GP. Advise your GP that you would like to talk about your mental health concerns and would like to get a mental health treatment plan. They will ask you some personal questions about your thoughts and feelings and may get you to complete a questionnaire regarding this. It is important to be as open and honest as possible with your GP when answering these questions. Your GP will then complete the MHTP and set some mental health goals with you.

Once completed, your GP will send your mental health treatment plan along with a referral letter to Krysten Henning Psychology or they may give it to you, to present at your first appointment with Krysten. You must have this paperwork at the time of your first appointment with Krysten to receive a Medicare rebate.

Your initial referral and mental health treatment plan will be for six sessions. After this, you will need to have a review with your GP, where you can discuss your progress, as per the goals set out in your plan. If you and your GP agree that further therapy is required, your plan can be extended for further sessions.

A new referral is required every 12 months to access the Medicare rebate. This applies regardless of whether you have used all the sessions you were referred within that year.

  • Please check with your health fund to see if you are covered. Receipts can be emailed if you need them for third party claims.

  • Yes – These services will incur a fee as they can be time consuming and extensive. Please discuss the details with Krysten before requesting such a service.

  • People often feel various emotions leading up to their first session, and a great relief once they get things off their chest. You don’t need to have your thoughts in order, or a coherent story to present to your session. Just show up as you are.

The first appointment is where you can begin discussing what’s happening in your world, so you and Krysten can start to figure out what kind of therapy you are seeking or would prefer. You can expect that Krysten will ask a range of questions and listen to your concerns and experiences. She will use a trauma focused approach to guide these appointments, so that therapy can be a space where you can feel heard and safe.

Real change starts with the radical acceptance of imperfection.
